I bought Unanswered Prayer from Kelsey yesterday...or was it the day before? Anyway I've been walking her around the barn's grounds each day, just to get her used to me and my voice and stuff. Today I decided that I would ride her. I had just gotten back from this volleyball clinic I had to go to and now I was walking down the barn aisle. There were acually a few barns-but luckily Kelsey's and my horses were in the same barn. Prayer would keep her same stall...next to Rocky and across from Key Lime Wonder. My arm was feeling much better today-after yesterday's fall-and so I was excited about our ride. It wasn't going to be anything extravegent-I just wanted to get the feel for her. Too bad Kelsey wasn't here...she could have probably given me some pointers....oh well-maybe she'd stop by later.
I reached Prayer's stall and she imediately came to greet me, obviously looking for treats. I laughed..."Later girl...if you're good!" I had brought with me a brand new halter for her...it was a teal color. Kelsey had offered to give me one of her leather halters (Prayer's original)-but as it still had her nameplate and everything, I really didn't want her to go to the trouble, so I politley declined...and explained that the perfect horse was probablt just around the corner and she would need a halter then!! We laughed.
Prayer stuck her head into the halter obediently...she knew the drill. I clipped my teal lead (also new) on her and led her to the cross ties. She spooked a little when Kiki poked her head out and tried to nip her, but we quickly regained control. I hooked her up and went to get my grooming box. I curried her and she moaned in enjoyment. I then brushed her down and took a damp cloth over her eyes and nose...then I took the soft brush and did her face. I quickly picked her mane, tail, and then her hooves. Her hooves were a little cracked and so I oiled them and smiled. She was being so good.
I didn't know wether she needed a martingale or boots or anything so I just decided to skip it...we were just going to fool around. I grabbed my navy saddle pad, and decided a little bump pad wouldn't hurt her so I put that on her too, I took out my heaviest saddle, that was a dark brown. I wanted her to know I was up there. I slid a little fleece cover over my biggest girth-jsut in case. She was a real tall girl at 17.00hh and I didn't want to take chances with anything...after my hand a fall wouldn't be good!
She was a tacked except for a bridle. I didn't know which bit too use so I took out Kiki's bridle and used that. It had a simple snaffle and if that didn't work I could always go in early. She took the bit easily and I led her out-I grabbed my crop on the way out...just in case she wasn't listening. We walked out o the jumping ring...
