I just told Allie I would give her a mounted lesson in the jumper ring, and since I have never ridden Rocky before, I was really excited.
I grabbed his halter off of his stall door and went out to his pasture. He was turned out with Lexi and Fly. Fly was his best bud, and Lexi was sort of his girlfriend.
I called for him and he came trotting down the hill to the fence. "Good Boy!" and I patted him on the nose. I slipped the halter over his ears and led him out.
Lexi came trotting down too when she saw Rocky leaving. I quickly shut the gate and chained it so she couldn't get out. I looked Rocky over as we went back to the barn. Mud from poll to hoof. But I knew I couldn't mess around because Allie was waiting for me.
I tied Rocky near his stall and went for my brushes. I brushed him down till he shined in the sun's light. I quick picked his hooves and went back to the tack room.
The saddle cover had come off of my saddle, so now it was even dirtier. 'I'm glad Allie and I are having that tack cleaning pary!!' i thought. I grabbed my navy saddle pad, my smallest girth, bounce pad, and saddle. I took it back to Rocky and tacked him up. He wasn't "cinchy" at all. I gave him a pat as I went into the tack room for a last time.
I didn't have a pony bridle so I borrowed one that had Squiggles on the name plate. I would leave a note telling the owner that I borrowed if after the lesson. I put the bridle on my shoulder and grabbed my GPA helmet, SSG riding gloves, and Ariat Crowne Pro Field Boots.
I quickly put my boots on and my helmet. I stuck my gloves in my stirrup iron for a second. I took off his halter and put the bit in his mouth and the bridle over his ears. It was a perfect fit. I was glad, since I was in a hurry, I didn't want to have to adjust anything. I did up the noseband and the throatlatch and led Rocky out to the jumper ring...
