Today I took Lightning out after my lesson. He's such a good jumper and we really had a great work-out today. AFter I had warmed him up we went over a gymnastic set of 3 low cross bars...we bounced right through it. I collected him and went towards the small 2 ft. oxer which we easily cleared. After a few more jumps we settled into a easy trot around the ring as I decided a little course that we could end on. I made up my mind...all the jumps were still low, but since no one was out in the ring with me I decided I better keep it easy and leave them as they were. We went down and did a trot circle and then cantered toward the first vertical on the longside...one, two, jump, we cleared at the perfect distance. But I quickly adverted my eyes to the next line. It was on the other longside...a low vertical three canter strides then a intimidating oxer. I was almost there Lightning was lengthening his stride...which I let him do since I didn't want to chip the first one...unforntunatly I didn't foresee the 3 strides to the oxer...we took two and went long...errgg! I patted Lightning, it was my falt we messed up. He was breathing easy so I took him at it one more time, I had to end it on a good note. I trotted to the end of the ring and cantered a circle to get our stride. I got it right and landed the first...one, teo, three, and we made the oxer !yes! Lightning felt my excitement and gave a little buck witch I quickly corrected and we slowed to a easy trot once more. WE cooled down and a slowly led him to the barn...this was a very promising work, even though it was light and I couldn't wait for the next jumping show!
