We got out to the ring and I warmed her up slowly. We had time to kill. We walked, once, twice, three times around the ring. I was getting used to her gait and mouth. SHe was really senstitive, so it was good I used the snaffle. She had long heavy strides and got nervous at times when she would throw her head up to shake off bugs. I should have gotten a mask...oh well. I calmed myself and would ease her on keeping her occupied.
It was time to trot. I gently nugded her...testing out what she would do. Almost imedetly she bounded ahead. She was ready to canter. She was so sensitive! I posted to her long stride and tried to sit a little after we had done a lap around the ring-avoiding the jumps. I was not cut out for sitting her dtride...she was just to bouncy! Maybe later I thought. We did a few figure eights and I got acustomed to her. At the corner I decided to canter. I sat and gave a little nudge and she was off! Almost like a racehorse! She almost put Catch to shame-JK! I collected her. SHe was not going to use me! We cantered twice around, and finally she started to tire. Not much but I decided to take th moment to walk her and to decide what jumps I would take. I really didn't want to get off her and fix jumps, just because I was unsure of what she would do...that and there was no mounting block in the ring and I couldn't get on her by myself...there was no way I was going to try and get on the fence to mount her. There was a tiny cross I decided to trot. I nudged her and we troted off towards the jump. SHe saw it and her ears perked up. SHe raised her head up to where I couldn't even shee over. My reins got slack...I quickly regained them and tried to pull her back a little, but we were to close to the jump and her head was just too high. C**p! One...Two, trot steps and we were there. Since it was soo small I deciided to keep posting...I didn't wasnt her to canter if I got into two-point too early. She reached her head down and leaped! I released quickly. We must have jumped 4 feet over the little X! She landed and we started to canter. I pulled her up quickly and we walked up to the jump. She wanted to jump it at the walk. We circled and I contemplated how to take it. I decided to circle at a slow trot untill she could pass it quietly and then take her over it.
I collected her and we trotted three easy circles in front of the jump...the next time instead of turning before the jump I took her to it. She was obviously surprised, but quickly hopped over it...like she should have done in the first place. I gave her a big pat and circled on the other side and took her back over. She hopped again. Yay!! I decided to turn in on that. She had frothy white foam on her bit from all the excitement. She was easy on the way back to the barn. But I let her stand for a minute before I dimounted. SHe stood and I got off. I hosed her down with cool water. She was still huffing so I held the cool water over her heart to cool her faster. It worked and after I sqeegied her I led her back to her stall. She shook like a dog and I locked her in and went to clean the tack. I needed to ride Lightning...he needed to be entered in that 3-day eventing show! maybe I would take him out on the trail later...
