After tacking Rocky up, I met up with Allie in the ring. A few jumps were already set up so I didn't have to get off. Even though Rocky won the 3-day event, I didn't ride him. The co-owner of him, Courtney, rode him. She won't be riding him anymore though on account of her getting her own horse.
In the ring, Allie was warming up Kiki. I was her practicing some lateral work (shoulder-ins, haunches-ins, extensions, and collections) down the long-side of the ring. Kiki was a great mover. She was an even better jumper.
"Hey Allie! Ready for your lesson?" I yelled as soon as she slowed Kiki to a walk. I mounted up and walked over to the ring. "You bet! I'm almost done warming up Kiki, then I think she's ready to jump!" With that said, Allie picked up the canter and went around the ring, making a big circle in each end. Kiki had a nice flowing canter, even stride, and she stayed on the bit. I couldn't wait to ride her tomorrow.
I didn't wasted anytime warming up Rocky. Once around at the walk, then the trot, circles at each end. It was so funny riding this large pony with his tiny little trot steps. I was used to my big horses, Lexi Fly Prince.
Then I turned around and trotted the other way, smae thing. I felt bad, making Allie wait as I warmed up, so..."Oh, I'm sorry, Allie. You can go ahead over the big crossrail that's set up" and she did. She trotted into it and cantered out. Kiki jumped with a nice rounded back and even knees. "Very good. Kiki is such a nice jumper!" I said. I followed behind with Rocky. I trotted into it as well. I was so cute the way he just popped over it. "He looks really nice, Kelsey. He jumps with good conformation and even knees, too!" Allie told me.
Rocky's canter was easy to sit to. His small stride and speed made it a comfortable ride. The next fence set up was a 2.9 vertical. "Go ahead up over the vertical, Allie" She made a circle and trotted to the fence. It didn't look like Kiki had enough momentum from the trot because she knocked a rail down. "What happened? You didn't have enough momentum, not enough speed. This time canter to it, Kiki doesn't jump so well over the bigger fences from the trot" "Okay" Allie said as she went for the fence again.
This time, her pace was just right and it made for a good jump. "That's better, Allie" Again, I follwed with Rocky. I cantered to the fence as well. I love Rocky's jump, no wonder Courtney raved about him so much. And he's young too, only 5 years old. I was going to ask Allie if i could help her set up a hunter jumper show. I wanted to so something not so hard, like a 3-day event, for my first show with him.
The last fence was a 4.3 oxer. I wasn't even going to try it with Rocky, but I told Allie she could. "Now be careful over this one. Give her a long release to be sure. No automatic realeases, even though yours are looking very nice. Okay, go for it. And remember, get enough momentum up to the fence" Allie shook her head and picked up the canter to it. Her pace was very good. Kiki got up well over the fence, and Allie's long realease was very nice. "Excellent Allie. That was great, do you want to end with that?" "Sure, I'm happy with her. I'm gonna go cool her out in the dressage ring" She gave Kiki a pat as she walked her out.
I was done with Rocky too, so I took him out too. Once out of the ring, i dismounted, ran up my stirrups, and led him into the barn...
