I was finally done tacking up, so I walked Rocky over to the mounting block. I tightened my girth a last time and ran down my stirrups. I stepped up on to the block, put my left foot into the stirrup, and swung my body onto his back. It felt good to be riding again.
As I was walking over to the ring, I noticed that a hunter course was set up, probably for Allie and Prayer. I lucked out. And there was a cross rail warmup set up too. "Man, we really did luck out today, didn't we, boy?" I said to Rocky.
I did a quick warm up, since I was eager to jump. I walked around the ring both ways and eased into a trot. We went around the ring once each way and did big circle at each end both directions. I walked then picked up the canter. Rocky was doing great today, I didn't need my crop at all. We went swiftly around the ring both ways before we started jumping. I gave him a 2 minute breather before I circled at went for the cross rail. As soon as he saw the jump in front of him, Rocky perked his ears up. He went willingliy over the tiny fence. Over top of the jump, he tucked his little pony legs up and had his knees even. It was so cute. We reversed after the jump and went back down over it. He did the same thing.
Then we went over the course. It was only 5 jumps, 2 outside lines and a jump in the middle. He handled it like a true gentlemen. He didn't speed up or slow down, he got the exact number of strides, and his knees were even and his conformation was good over every fence. I thought to myself, 'I have the perfect pony!'
After doing the course a couple of times, I cooled him out by walking around the ring. Then I took him to the front of the barn and dismounted. I gave Rocky a big pat on the neck and a kiss on the muzzle and walked him into the barn...
