After I had finished dealing with Zen, and all his weird behavior, I decided that today was a perfect day to give Kiki a first look at the cross-country track. I walked down to her stall and she poked her head out at me. SHe could easily poke her head out, as I left the top door of her stall open, Zen on the other hand could not be trusted like this. I grinned and slipped her leather halter on, then I opened the door and clipped her lead on. We walked down to the cross-ties and I clipped her halter up to the leads. SHe was being quite good today, and I was proud of her. I groomed her quickly, but sufficiently and went to get my smooth jumping saddle. I wanted to make sure that she could still clear the same heights that she used too. Acually all I really felt like doing was taking her in a slow canter along the cc trail, but incase I changed my mind I wanted to be prepared. She was such a marvelous jumper I thought as I finished tacking her up. I put her bell boots on then led her to the mounting block.
Todays ride was great. We cleared several small fences at the end of our ride, and I walked her once around the dressage ring to cool her. SHe must have remembered our old routine because she kept trying to a half pass at C. I hosed her off and put her back in her stall...
I knew I needed to get out and breeze Can't Catch Me (Catch), but it was getting a little late to go all the way down to mile and a half track that was a ways off from the barn. I could always have a go tomorrow. Today I was happy just visiting him...

I took Kiki out again today...it was a hard work for her but she needed to satrt shaping up. Her break was over. The dressage ring was empty so I took her in to wasrm her up. SHe liked the sand and it was easiar then taking her out on the trail fresh. I did a few figure eights at the walk then easied her up to the trot. She lazily stretched her neck down and we went around a few times. At the corner I finally quickened her to the canter. Halfway on the left lead, then a quick switch through the middle to the right. She was ready and we made our decent to the cc trail. Here we did our thing. SHe was in full gear and we cleard to hay jumps and doubled back to the fist wooden oxer. All was doing well. We were hitting our mark, but it was time to go to the deep vertical that had been causing us trouble since day 1. It was at the end of th trail nearest the outlet to the pasture in the back. I trotted her over and eyed it up nothing we couldn't handle. I oulled her back and we circled at the canter and faced it....once she startet at a bird, but I quickly flicked my crop and adverted her attention she saw the jump and perked her ears, easily letting her stride go loose, which this time took us the the vertical in two easy bounds and we were over! This was a good day!

I took Catch out today for Allie. I had no idea what saddle to use, so I just threw on my oak colored Pessoa jumping saddle. I led Catch out to the dressage ring to warm him up. I struggled getting on from the ground, but I did it. 16 + hands istn't as easy as it looks. The Thoroughbred in Catch showed right away as he through his head up and pranced around the arena. Even with the ring bit, Catch ran right through the bridle. So I didn't even bother trying to get him to walk. I just started posting. It was a lot smoother than the sitting trot I was attempting. We went 2 times around when Catch spooked at Christy coming up with Tie. "Hello, Im sorry. I didnt mean to spook him like that" she said "no thats okay, he just a little hyper. You know Thoroughbreds can be such, well......Thoroughbreds!" We both laughed. I led the way to the track, a mile and a 1/4 was the distance. I could tell he was ready to go. I was just going to breeze him, but i could feel a track record coming on. Once we got on the track, we took off right away, Tie and Christy trailing behind. For those of you who had never ridden a Thoroughbred race horse, its freekin amazing!!!! (excuse my language) The adreneline of the horses speed and energy!!! All your trust is in the horse, with possibly your life resting in 2 little pieces of metal. But, just as fast as it started, it ended, but with a new track record! Christy had been holding a stop watch the whole time. She told me the good news as I walked Catch out. I reached down and gave him a HUGE pat on the side of his sweaty neck. Tie was sweaty too, so we took both of the horses back to the dressage arena to cool them out. I went in, but Christy wanted to practice some light dressage at the walk. I slipped of his bridle, white with sweat and put his nylon halter on. I clipped the cross ties to his halter and continued to untack him. I took the girth off on both sides and put it on the ground (no way was i putting it over my nice, clean saddle!!!!). Then I carefully lifted the saddle and bounce pad off of Catch's back, leaving the saddle pad. I walked to the tack room and put my saddle on the rack that had a nameplate and my name on it. I walke back out to Catch and took the nasty pad off his back. I took it over to the drying rack and put down, sweaty side up. I took Catch over to the wash stall and hosed him off really good. I could tell by the way he stood perfectly still, that he was enjoying it. After I hosed him off, I put him back in his stall and gave him a flake of hay. I'm sure it was a good day!!!

Thanks for taking Catch out...stuff came up for me too!~LoL! I went swimming with my Aunt and cousin and afterwards I went to see a movie...LOL! Which one did you did you see? I'm giving Catch a day off then starting up with his training plan again...one day at a long 3 mile walk, the next at a slow trot (1 mile), and the day after that a smooth canter for a mile and a half! Then the breeze! A new track record-huh? Well we better keep that up! Thanks again!
